The volume comprises eighteen plates after designs by Karl Friedrich Schinkel that were issued in the five-volume publication titled Decorationen auf den beiden königlichen Theatern in Berlin. The plates comprise the eight from this publication that illustrated Schinkel's stage settings for the production of the Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte). Twelve plates document design sets attributed to Carl Wilhelm Gropius.
